Creative Minds - Show Yourself

About Us

We are the first students in Newham College of Further Education to take the new 14-19 Diploma in Creative and Media and this website is a record of our achievement.

Press Association LogoWe spent our work experience at the London offices of the Press Association where we put this site together. We worked with a web designer from mWorld who took us through the design process. We came up with the name, the logo, colour schemes ideas and made invaluable design and navigation decisions. For each page we had a clear vision of what we wanted to achieve and developed our content with journalists.

It’s been quite a journey; lots of sweat and tears, but fortunately no blood so far.

Within this site you will find a personal page of achievement produced by each of us, some more information about our industry partner the Press Association and lots of info about the qualification itself. There’s also a page about how we set-up our visual arts exhibition and delivered a press conference held at PA.

We think the new diplomas are a great way of learning and having seen this site, we hope you agree.

Our College

Newham College is one of the first colleges in the country to deliver the Creative and Media Diploma. Its aim is to deliver learning in the heart of local communities in and around the London borough of Newham.

It is one of the largest further education colleges in the country with more than 20,000 full and part-time students. Many of the students are local, and over 80% are aged over 19 on entry with an average age of 31.

Our group is the pioneer of these new qualifications which are designed to provide an insight into a particular sector of industry. Our sector is creative and media and if you click on one of the above picture links, you can see some of the work we produced.

Enjoy

The Diploma in Creative and Media is very different from other subjects offered by schools and colleges in the past. For students who choose to study it, they will learn in practical, creative ways that may be new to them and which they will enjoy.

Inspire

The majority of creative industries recruit from Higher Education so this qualification is aimed at providing students with the inspiration to progress into additional learning routes. Some may decide to continue in a vocational environment, but by doing this qualification, students will gain communication, teamwork and critical analysis skills.

Create

There are four Principal Learning themes in this diploma which include:

  • Creativity in Context
  • Thinking and working creatively
  • Principles, Processes and Practice
  • Creative Business and Enterprise
This is one of a series of projects developed and delivered by the Press Association Training Experience.
