Hi my name is Maria Bugembe. On May 21, 2009, as part of our work experience at the Press Association we held a press conference. We interviewed Clive Lissaman, a really interesting and funny man who is involved with the diploma.
To prepare for the press conference we looked at different types of press conference, watched some on video and then listed out the things we needed to do. It involved researching Clive, finding out who he is and what he does. We then developed questions we thought would be interesting to ask him.
We then planned how to record the press conference such as making a video, recording audio, taking photos and note-taking. In the morning we practised by asking our tutor questions about his career as a journalist.
We set up the room like a real press conference and found out that Clive was really interesting. He told us how he used to get in trouble a lot when he was young. In fact he was a punk rocker. Eventually though he somehow managed to get into university.
I asked Clive: "How can I get into the music industry as a singer?"
Clive said I need to know the right people, book myself some gigs so that I can get to perform and try to get some vocal training. Then he suggested I make a demo tape. I found his answer helpful.
It was interesting to see how the media uses a press conference to get information out of people.
He now works for an organisation called Skillset which is very involved with the new diplomas and he told us how there are going to be a lot more young people doing the diploma next year. We thought the press conference might last half an hour but it was so interesting it lasted for over an hour and a half.
A great afternoon! Hope you enjoy the video.
Maria
