While on this diploma, I have produced a range of products from 3D designs, various websites, and a Weymouth paint board. As well as creating my own beats. But the best product that I feel that I have produced out of all of the above is my Weymouth Board.
The Weymouth project brief given by Ayesha, our tutor, was to undertake research work and produce a board to show our understanding about Portland stone that comes from Weymouth cliffs.
For the task, I gathered as much information as I could about the history of Portland, where is comes from and its uses. After my research, I collected different images related to Portland stone to create my mood board.
After making the mood board, I went on trip to Barbican to see the artwork of Le Corbusier whose work was the inspiration for my final design. From various sketches, I toyed with the idea of designing a piece of architecture like a sculpture with pillars.
My piece was looking very empty because the pillars had nothing inside of them and that when I came up with the idea of drawing a well-known Newham artwork and used Newham logo in one of the pillars.
For my final design, I settled on using acrylic paint after experimenting with a mixture of colours and then painting it on the paper. I also experimented with other materials such as water paint, oil pastel and acrylic paint. I changed the background design as initially I decided to have a very colourful background for my board but I thought a lighter background would be more attractive and suit the design better. Looking back now that my board is finished, I think my ideas and board have worked out very well.
Marhaba!
Anum here, I am currently studying on the Creative and Media course, which is a brand new diploma for young people aged 14-19 years old.
I am interested in the world of media and this course is a pathway to my ambition, as I would like to become a reporter. Once I get my diploma, my plan is to progress to the next level.
This programme has been very challenging. It has increased my self-confidence and I have developed as a person. I have discovered that I have good leadership skills that have allowed me to face all obstacles and challenges to problem-solve and be creative.
The workload has been intense and unpredictable. I had to learn to multi-task, undertake work experience, complete other projects as well as study at the same time. In addition, my reading and writing skills have improved.
I enjoy reading and writing even more now. My ambition is to become a world-famous journalist and writer that uncovers new stories and brings out the bitter truth from hidden places.
This part of course was very exciting because I had to help co-ordinate an event. As a group we had to present our work to an audience. I chose the best work I had produced from my Visual Art and Photography projects.
The aim of the exhibition was to showcase the creative work produced by the students on the Creative and Media Level 1 and Music and Media Level 1. Students from both courses were allowed to bring a guest, and we also invited the college teaching staff and their managers.
To plan for the exhibition, we had to hold meetings between the college staff and students. I had to take down the notes and minute the meetings. In the meetings, we discussed and agreed the date, time and venue for the exhibition, the work that needed to be displayed by each student and the numbers of visitors we could invite.
As group leader for this project, I had to design the exhibition flyers, invitation cards, and evaluation questionnaire from the questions agreed by everyone. I co-ordinated the display of the flyers around the college and produced the PowerPoint presentation for this exhibition from the various images I collected from my classmates.
On the day of the exhibition, my duties included making the group PowerPoint presentation, registering visitors and giving out invitation cards. Additionally, during the exhibition I went around giving out the evaluation sheets, talking to those that attended to get their opinions about the exhibition and the exhibits.
The exhibition was a success. Quite a lot of questionnaires were filled in on the day and the initial feedback from the audience that attended the exhibition was that it was well organised, the refreshments were great and they liked the artwork. Some visitors made some useful suggestions on how we could have improved the exhibition. For example by giving better explanations of our displays and putting the student names and titles closer to their work.
Ok, enough of me now! Bang your head on the rest of the site and enjoy your time here.
See ya!
